Canadian artist Charles Pachter is renowned for his distinctive paintings that feature iconic symbols, including the moose, the Canadian flag, and Queen Elizabeth II. Known for their characteristically bold shapes, bright colours, and playful style, Pachter’s paintings are highly coveted by collectors in the contemporary art market. His work is represented in numerous galleries and museums across Canada, from the Art Gallery of Guelph to the Portrait Gallery of Canada and from the University of Alberta to the University of Toronto. Pachter’s creations range from paintings and sculptures to books and prints; collectively, they illustrate his major influence on the development of Canadian visual culture. Pachter’s work has been celebrated in international exhibitions, and he maintains an extensive personal collection of his work in a three-storey gallery–Charles Pachter Museum–which adjoins his Toronto residence. Pachter's handmade limited edition (15 copies) of Margaret Atwood’s Speeches for Doctor Frankenstein (PS 8551 T97 S74 1966 folio) has been a perennial favourite, and, now, thanks to in-kind donations from Pachter, the Peel library completed its collection of the books that have been illustrated by him, including special editions of Margaret Atwood’s The Circle Game (PS 8551 T97 C5 1964 folio) and Alden Nowlan’s A Black Plastic Button and a Yellow Yoyo (PS 8527 O97 B5 1968 folio).
