Dr Bruce P. Dancik has taken on many roles at the University of Alberta including Professor and Associate Vice-President (Academic). Dr Dancik was the Director of the Devonian Botanic Gardens from 2001 to 2011 and is currently Professor Emeritus in the U of A's Department of Renewable Resources. The Dancik Collection consists of more than 3,000 books and numerous ephemeral publications. Many are titles of extreme rarity, often illustrated with woodcuts, copper or steel engravings, chromolithographs, and photoengravings. Beyond documenting the history and practice of angling, the collection is a significant research resource for freshwater biologists, limnologists, and ichthyologists, and for the study of ecology and wildlife resource management. Dr Dancik continues to work in forestry, science, and scientific editing and publishing. He has received many awards for his dedication to the advancement of science and protection of the environment. Researchers can find the books in the Dancik collection by searching the main U of A library catalogue and the ephemeral publications through the finding aid.
The Dancik Collection—celebrated in an award-winning exhibition (A Contemplative Angler, 2018-2019) and an award-winning short film—was donated to the library over a period of several years by Bruce Dancik, and some further book acquisitions were made possible with funds generously contributed by Brenda Laishley and other donors. We invite you to support the collection.
