Prairie Ephemera
The Prairie Ephemera collection housed in Bruce Peel Special Collections is an eclectic mix of materials that provide insight into the region's political, economic, social, and cultural development. Covering both the public and private spheres, it includes materials that range from personal and business correspondence to photographs and memoirs; from printed advertisements and booklets promoting local businesses and cultural events to programs and catalogues related to local associations and unions; from reports, pamphlets, and advertisements about government programs and elections to documents pertaining to education and religion. Although some of these materials are from recent decades, most date from 1953 or earlier.
Getting started: Most student researchers will want to employ a series of keyword searches in the University of Alberta Library catalogue in order to find relevant print and digital materials in all U of A library locations and collections, including the Peel library. To examine ephemeral materials in this collection, researchers can identify which items might be of interest using the collection’s finding aid.
